Stating that breast aesthetic surgeries play an important role in increasing women’s self-confidence, Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Süleyman Köken emphasized the importance of planning these operations individually according to the patient’s wishes and body structure, and provided information about breast reduction and lift surgeries.
Op. Dr. Süleyman Köken stated that women with breasts that are disproportionately large for their body structure may experience health problems such as neck, back, and shoulder pain. He said, “Large breasts not only cause aesthetic concerns but can also lead to health problems. Breast reduction surgery may be necessary to prevent issues such as hunching, chafing, and skin irritation. In breast reduction surgery, excess fat and skin tissue are removed, and the breasts are lifted to make them more proportionate to the body. Breast lift surgery, on the other hand, provides a firming effect on sagging breasts caused by age, genetics, childbirth, and weight changes. Breast reduction and lift surgery takes approximately 3-4 hours under general anesthesia. Breast reduction surgery is actually a lift surgery. Therefore, we recommend performing them in combination.”
Addressing women’s concerns about breastfeeding after breast aesthetics surgery, Op. Dr. Süleyman Köken stated, “Since milk ducts are not damaged in breast augmentation surgery, breastfeeding continues without problems after childbirth. In reduction and lifting surgeries, however, the birth plan is an important factor. The techniques used ensure the preservation of breastfeeding function.”
Statementing that the postoperative period is as important as the operation itself, Op. Dr. Süleyman Köken said, “We recommend that our patients wear a compression garment for at least 2-3 months to ensure a comfortable recovery and to protect the results. The compression garment helps maintain the shape of the breast tissue during the healing process and also helps reduce possible swelling. During the healing process, heavy lifting, sudden movements, and excessive raising of the arms should be avoided. Smoking and alcohol consumption negatively affect the healing process. Smoking, in particular, slows down skin healing and can increase the risk of complications. Therefore, we recommend avoiding smoking before and after surgery. To prevent infection, the use of antibiotic cream on the stitches is very important for the first two weeks. After the stitches have healed, scar-reducing creams or scar-preventing bandages can be used to minimize scarring. Furthermore, not neglecting doctor’s check-ups during this period is the most important factor for proper healing.”
