Body deformations caused by childbirth, breastfeeding, and rapid weight loss can lead to aesthetic concerns for many women. Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Süleyman Köken stated that thanks to “motherhood aesthetics,” it is possible for women to correct these deformations and achieve their desired appearance. Dr. Köken explained that motherhood aesthetics encompasses a series of operations aimed at correcting body deformations caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, or rapid weight loss. He added, “This operation targets three main areas: breast aesthetics, tummy tuck surgery, and liposuction. We call the combination of these three procedures motherhood aesthetics.”
Providing information about breast aesthetics, one of the most important elements of motherhood aesthetics, Op. Dr. Köken explained the procedures applied according to different breast types as follows: For large and sagging breasts, both reduction and lifting surgery are performed. For small, hollow, and sagging breasts, volume is added by inserting implants, and a lifting procedure is also applied. For breasts that are only small and not sagging, classic breast augmentation surgery is performed. Emphasizing that all procedures are planned individually, Köken said, “We determine the most suitable surgical method according to the patient’s body structure and expectations.
Dr. Köken stated that the deformations that occur in the abdominal area during pregnancy are not limited only to skin sagging, adding, “Significant loosening and sagging can occur in the abdominal area after multiple pregnancies or extreme weight gain and loss. With a tummy tuck surgery, excess skin is removed, and at the same time, the abdominal muscles that have loosened after childbirth are tightened. This results in a flatter and firmer abdominal appearance.”
Dr. Köken stated that some patients may have stubborn fat deposits even after losing weight, and that liposuction comes into play in these cases. Dr. Köken said, “Patients may complain about fat accumulation in areas such as the waist, love handles, legs, or back. At this point, we reshape the body with 360-degree liposuction. When liposuction is applied together with tummy tuck and breast aesthetics, we can create a more curvy and proportionate body line.”
Dr. Köken stated that the mommy makeover surgery, performed under general anesthesia, takes approximately 8 to 10 hours. He added, “Patients should wear a corset for at least two months after combined mommy makeover surgery. Rest is recommended for the first 10 days after surgery; heavy lifting and exercise should be avoided during this period. Daily life can be resumed after 10 days, but the full recovery process takes approximately six months. To maintain the results of the surgery for a long time, weight gain and loss should be monitored, and a second pregnancy should not be planned
